The Pieve di San Pietro a Gropina is the most visited church in the whole province of Arezzo
it is a splendid Romanesque building with very particular characteristics, with splendid capitals, with a truly unique pulpit and with a church of Lombard origin which is located under the floor of the current one.
To the visitor, the PIEVE presents itself with a simple façade that repeats the internal tripartition, made of filaretto sandstone masonry: the interior has three naves and encloses the pulpit which is the crowning glory of all the artistic beauty enclosed in the Pieve di S .Pietro in Gropina.
This is an admirable, unique, particular and very ancient work (even from the 8th century), a work in which art becomes symbolism and mystery is the crowning glory of all the artistic beauty contained in the Pieve di S. Pietro a Gropina : it is worthwhile to come here even just to be able to see and admire this wonderful, unique, particular and very ancient work (even from the 8th century), a work in which art becomes symbolism and mystery.
I must add that in my excursions up and down Tuscany pulpits I have seen many, but never like this: there are neither so ancient nor of this workmanship with intertwined columns (the column with the knot expresses the greatest mystery of the faith: the Trinity of God, because there is a God in three equal and distinct persons: Father and Son expressed with the two knotted columns and there is the Holy Spirit whose symbol is the knot
